Understanding Mind

Read this poem titled "Manam Unardhal" or "Understanding Mind" by N. Muthukumar in the latest issue of "Kumudham". Among all the trash Kumudham had dished out, this one stood out. I have translated, rather transliterated, the same for you:

In a mountain hut where clouds smash against rocks and smithereen into water drops, three disciples asked a Guru “How to reach God?”

The guru replied disciples’ question after exhaling out with finesse the inhaled air “Write down your thoughts after giving them an intense gaze and come back to me”

Seconds flew. First disciple wrote – “Leaves fall from the jack fruit tree. No regrets.”

Second disciple wrote – “The sound of light talking to darkness when the closed room door opens”.

Third disciple wrote – “Chill, Tea, Girl who resides in the opposite house, The drink I had don’t know when, Suicide, Dog on the mountain path, Guru has got squint eyes, pencil isn’t sharpened”

Guru read all three, smiled and told – “The writings of first two disciples are manifestation of a mind which falsely exhibits itself to be conditioned. The identity of ‘I’ hasn’t yet been annihilated in them. The mind the third disciple possesses is the one which is apt for trudging god’s path. Mind is just an aggregation of bizarre thoughts. There is no direction for the dust that floats in the air”
